Methodology
Each area you enter is expressed as a share of total floor area, and anything unassigned is reported as unallocated rather than silently absorbed — unallocated space is usually the first thing an expansion study finds. Cost per square metre spreads the annual occupancy cost across the whole building. Production cost per square metre spreads the same total across only the area doing production work, which is the figure that shows what non-production space really costs. Occupancy cost per unit divides the annual occupancy cost by annual output, giving the space component of unit cost. Output per production square metre is the space productivity measure to track over time; it is meaningful only against itself, never against another plant with different products. The space profile is an operational description, not a judgement: storage-heavy is normal for a plant buying in large batches, and circulation-heavy is normal where large components must move. Excluded: vertical space and racking height, whether the layout actually flows, the difference between owned and leased occupancy cost, service charges, capital tied up in the building, and whether the constraint is space at all rather than equipment or labour. You supply every input: this site holds no factory cost data, capacity figures, yields, cycle times or industry benchmarks, and never estimates them for you. Results are an orientation model for structuring a decision, not an industrial engineering study, a quotation, or safety, engineering or financial advice.
