Container utilisation calculator
How many units fit a container, and whether cube, payload or supply binds first.
Methodology
Usable volume = internal volume × (1 − stowage loss). Maximum units by volume = usable volume ÷ unit volume, rounded down. Maximum units by weight = payload capacity ÷ unit weight, rounded down. Units loaded is the lowest of those two limits and the units you actually have, and the binding constraint names which one applied. Utilisation percentages compare the loaded volume and weight with the container's usable volume and payload capacity. Internal volume and payload capacity vary by container type, build, and tare, so enter the figures for your actual equipment. The model does not evaluate stacking strength, weight distribution, axle limits on the road leg, or securing requirements. You supply every input: this site holds no live freight rates, transit times, or duty tables, and never estimates them for you. Results are an orientation model, not a quotation, and not customs, tax, insurance, or financial advice. Confirm duty rates, VAT treatment, and carrier terms with the relevant authority or provider before relying on them.
These calculations are informational estimates based on headline rates and transparent assumptions — not tax, accounting, or legal advice. Verify with a qualified local advisor before relying on the results.
Data limitations
- Logistics figures are operator-supplied inputs, not market data. GeoBusinessIQ holds no freight rates, transit times, capacity, or throughput data and does not estimate them — every result reflects only the figures you enter.
